The tasha's errata means that the steel defender can also do stuff like administer healing potions, grapple, use items like caltrops, etc. I started vhuman for GWM (but you could do yuan ti and just max your int at 12 instead of 8) and battlesmith lets you attack with int so you're SAD and doing normal martial levels of damage, or more if you wouldn't normally have a +1 weapon at this point in the campaign the steel defender bonus attack is just icing, nice icing that now uses your spell attack bonus. In the early levels you're a pretty straightforward arcane paladin-analog with a pet to add a bit of extra DPS. More or less rounding the ability to go SAD in any spellcasting stat. Astral Monk kind of allows you to go SAD, but scales strongly with levels so maybe you could dip cleric for utility casting. My initial thoughts with at least the racial rules is that, you can utilize either YuanTi or Gnome to get spell resistance, since most Gishes have access to the Shield spell but can otherwise be squishier than most melee fighters.Īrmourer Artificer joins the Hexblade in being able to go SAD. It can sometimes be an even split like a Ranger or Hexblade, lean towards melee like the Eldritch Knight, or be a full caster with passable melee like the SCAG Bladesinger. I'm mostly interested in Gishes that utilize the new Tasha Subclasses (either solo or multiclass, UA allowed), but I'd also like to hear how old Gish builds have changed with the new racial rules, feats, etc.įor those who don't know, a Gish is a character that is at least a servicable melee fighter with some spellcasting. So what are your favorite post-Tasha Gishes? Gishes are my favorite to archetype, and I've been a little OOL since Tasha's dropped.
